Abstraction Talk at Ignite UX Ann Arbor

Summary: Kaarin Hoff speaks at Ignite UX on filtering complex information to achieve clarity, alignment, & better results.

I had the pleasure of attending and speaking at Ignite UX Ann Arbor. Fifteen speakers talked for five minutes each to a room of more than 100 attendees. Speaker experience ranged from graduate students all the way up to UX team leads at major local companies. It was a delightful mix and enthusiasm in the room was high.

For those of you not familiar with the format, Ignite talks are five minute talks made up of 20 slides that auto advance every 15 seconds. It was fun to cut a talk that was originally 20 minutes (From IA Summit 2013) down to just five minutes. The format forces clearer points and focused communication goals and made me a better speaker.

I recorded this five-minute talk with the slides below—check it out

If we get concrete too quickly, we never establish goals. Intentional filtering of the complex lends clarity, alignment, and better results.
