Article update! Here’s the link to the WIAD archive.

ANN ARBOR, Mich., February 23, 2018 — In conjunction with the 7th annual World Information Architecture (IA) Day, The Understanding Group (TUG) and the Information Architecture Institute (IAI) are pleased to announce the World IA Day Archive, a free online video library that will serve as a centralized, on-demand global resource.

Now there is a growing, vibrant community focused on making good digital places. This archive preserves their wisdom and best practices for all to use
— Bob Royce, TUG co-founder

Scheduled to launch in April 2018, the archive is aimed at anyone who designs, writes, builds or architects websites. They will be able to access talks given at World IA Day by thought leaders and seasoned practitioners around the world through a central catalog to facilitate discovery.

Tomorrow, 56 World IA Day celebrations will be held across 25 countries on 5 continents.

Since 2012, World IA Day has been celebrated 206 times in different cities around the globe.“With the explosion of questionable content and poorly organized websites, good information architecture and user experience are more important than ever,” said Sam Raddatz, IAI Director of Events + Programming. “Our global community of practitioners is dedicated to improving the way information is presented online, and we assemble every year to share and learn new ideas. Now we’re taking our events up a notch by gathering those talks into a curated collection of content about organizing and structuring information in digital environments.”

The archive was made possible through a donation of time and money by The Understanding Group, and created by the World IA Day global team in collaboration with TUG and LA DIA Design.“This collection of talks is an unprecedented resource. The field of information architecture started fewer than 30 years ago, at the beginning of the digital revolution,” said Bob Royce, president of The Understanding Group. Organized by location, speaker, and topic, the talks are curated by a team of volunteer practitioners. Visitors will find information on topics such as:

  • Information as a force for change

  • Design thinking

  • Practical IA insights

  • Customer experience

Information architecture is the practice of deciding how to arrange the parts of something to be understandable.

World Information Architecture Day celebrations inspire the global growth of information architecture as a community of practice.

World IA Day is jointly produced by a network of global, regional, and local volunteers with support from the Information Architecture Institute (IAI), a nonprofit (501c6) organization of volunteers.
